Meet Attorney Coimbra
My name is Joe Coimbra with Second Chances Law Group, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and my law practice.
The types of cases we primarily handle have to do with criminal accusations of any and every possible kind on the state level, as well as on the federal level. It’s both very sad and very true that it doesn’t take much for someone to get arrested. If you look at the incarceration rates, well over 2 million people are currently incarcerated and that number will probably go up. All it takes is an oral or verbal accusation to get arrested, as authorities tend to arrest first and ask questions later. By then, it’s too late, and you’re already sitting in a jail cell.
One thing to take into account is how dangerous being in custody is. Inmate on inmate sexual assault is incredibly common. Unfortunately, stereotypes portrayed in movies are pretty accurate depictions of how violent local, state, and federal custody is. There is very little protecting inmates from the brutality of other inmates.
You don’t want to risk being subjected to that. Our law practice will try to make sure you never go into custody and will do everything we can to keep you out of custody.
One common thing that prosecutors like to do is have you operate under a false sense of security. First, you have what’s called an arraignment. During the arraignment, the prosecutor will ask the court to impose or raise bail, which will put you back in custody. Again, custody is very dangerous.
Our law firm does everything we can to resolve a case in a manner that least impacts your freedom, your ability to make a living, and your ability to maintain custody of your children in the future.
All of these things can be negatively impacted by a criminal conviction in a criminal case. For example, if you are accused of domestic battery or of any sexual assault or battery, and you are a parent, a conviction would mean you can kiss your kids and your job goodbye. That sounds harsh, but it’s true, so it’s important to hire an attorney who is specifically experienced in these areas.
We specify in criminal defense. A divorce lawyer or a personal injury lawyer isn’t going to have any idea how to handle your case.
One of the areas we focus on is sexual battery and sexual assault, because the consequences are so horrifying, including ending up on the lifetime sex offenders registry. It’s not just about keeping your freedom or your job, it’s making sure you never end up on any type of registry like narcotics or arson. Being on any sort of registry can greatly hinder your ability to be a free human being, and they can contribute greatly to you having a miserable life. That’s why it’s so important to hire an attorney who specializes in these types of cases and cares about your well-being.
I’ve wanted to be an attorney ever since I learned what one was back in the second grade. I actually won an award for illustrating what my future would look like. I definitely think I am living that now by being an attorney and representing other people’s interests.
I got into criminal defense, especially dealing with sex crimes, from reading books and watching movies about people getting put in jail for things they didn’t do. I decided I needed to contribute in any way I could to fight against that sort of evil.
We are not a jack of all trades law firm. You want someone who is zeroed in like a laser beam to criminal cases. That includes anything where jail is on the line. Mistakes happen. Jail doesn’t have to.
If you have any questions or other needs, please don’t hesitate to call me or send me an email. We are here to help.
