There have been a few changes recently to California laws that we think you should be aware of because they may affect you and your loved ones directly. A few very important changes have been signed into law by Governor Brown and have taken effect in 2017. Here are the ones you should know about.
The first is a cell phone law, which is applicable to nearly everyone. If you don’t have the phone attached to your windshield while using it, you are liable for a traffic infraction.
Another law change to note is Senate bill 28-88. This change came as a result of the infamous Brock Turner sexual assault case. Judges no longer have the discretion they used to in giving probation. There are now mandatory sentencing laws associated with this very serious crime.
A few other law changes to note include a new law regarding gender neutral bathrooms and a law that says the name “Redskins” can no longer be used as a mascot for a high school sports team.
These are just a few of the important changes that have taken effect since the beginning of the year. If you have any questions for us or want to know more about these laws, give me a call or send me an email. I would love to hear from you.
